What’s in My Camera Bag?

Hello friends! In this post, I want to talk about the things that I bring with me on travel adventures. I generally do not bring everything that I list with the weight adding up. It all depends on what the situation is but all the equipment that I have would support me from a day to day shoot to underwater to aerial shoots.

Camera Bag

I currently have the Thule Aspect Backpack. This bag has all that I need for travel. I mainly use this as a hiking backpack as well as it has enough space to store both lenses, drone and some minor accessories.

Cameras

I carry around the A7II at the moment. I usually have this attached to a lens below when I walk around so that I can quickly take off the lens cap and shoot.

  • Sony A7ii - 24 MP Camera for my moody / candid photos

  • Go Pro Hero 8 - Action camera used underwater, on an airplane and other spots where it would be difficult to record videos at.

  • Phone Camera - selfies and such.

Lenses

I currently have 3 lenses (and planning an additional 16mm - 35mm in the future and 70mm - 180mm Tamron), which includes:

  • 24mm - 105mm f4 G Lens (Sony) - Most versatile lens that I own. I primarily use this for landscape photos and some portrait shots. f4 is not the best in low light scenarios but for broad daylight, it works just fine.

  • 35mm f1.4 GM Lens (Sony) - Sharpest and one of my favorite lenses that I use for a variety of shots including low light landscapes and portraits. The focal length is perfect for a lot of applications. I generally carry this lens on an everyday carry scenario for food and such.

  • 28-75mm f4.5-f5.6 Lens (Sony) - This is a kit lens that I sometimes bring around with me if I go snorkeling with. If I know that there will be no swimming, I don’t generally bring this lens with me. The lens cover on the housing could only support this size as well.

Drone

I bring along the DJI Mavic Air 2 at times. The drone helps captures shots where I cannot reach at times. It gives off an amazing aerial viewpoint.

As drone laws are getting stricter overtime, I use an app to make sure that the area that I fly around follows the drone regulations.

General Accessories

These are some extra accessories that I carry around with me at times.

  • Peak Design Cuffs - Make sure that I do not drop my camera anywhere I go. It is an easy dismount as well.

  • Peak Design Capture Clip + Plate - Clipping my camera onto my backpack to free up my hands during a hike / anywhere I go

  • Peak Design Slide Lite - Planned to use this for rock climbing photography.

  • Peak Design Pro Pad - Attaches to the belt so that I can place my camera around waist level. Useful for rock climbing so that the camera does not swing around too much

  • Peak Design Tripod - Tripod that I carry around for landscape shots. Carbon Fiber edition mainly for the lightweight factor

  • Meikon Underwater Housing (for the A7II) - I’ve used this in a couple situations.

  • DJI Mavic Air 2 Battery Discharger - If I am carrying around fully charged DJI Mavic Air 2 Batteries and I need to use the charge in an emergency, I would use this to charge my phone / flashlight / etc.

  • First Aid Kit - Better safe than never.

  • Extra SD Cards - There was a moment I was on top of Panorama Ridge in Canada where I ran out of memory. It is better to bring extras. Do not take chances.

  • Extra Batteries - Sony A7II battery depletes charges pretty quick and it would be nice to have spares when it comes to it.

  • Wires (Thunderbolt Charger for Apple products, MicroUSB / USB-C Cable for Androids) - Mainly for charging mobile devices, android devices,

  • Chargers - Helps charge the DJI Mavic Air 2 Batteries and additional USB slot to charge other devices / batteries

  • Electronics Pouch - Carrying around batteries, wires, chargers, lens filters, SD cards and etc

  • Lumin8 Light Tube - Light stick / light equipment / useful for light painting

EDC (Everyday Carry)

For my EDC, I carry around a few things. I usually carry all of this stuff with me for food photography, street photography, and some portraits.

  • Sony A7II

  • 35mm Sony G Master f1.4 Lens

    • 35mm is a good focal length to have a balance between background and subject. It is just “wide enough” and “zoomed in enough” for the things that I need to get pictures of. 35mm is also a pretty good focal length to get pictures of almost anything as well. I don’t bring around the other lenses mainly because of weight and is not necessary most of the time.

  • Batteries

  • Masks (because 2020)

  • Peak Design Cuff

Snorkeling / Underwater Explorations

For my snorkeling adventures, I carry around a few things. I would attach the Go Pro Hero 8 to the top of the Underwater Housing using the horseshoe Go Pro Hero 8 mount to record clips underwater while taking pictures with my Sony within the housing. The underwater housing can only hold the 28mm-75mm f3.5-f5.6 lens. The housing also has a dome shape lens hood so that it would be better for surface water shots. Listed below are things that I carry with me.

  • Sony A7II

  • 28mm - 75mm f3.5-f5.6 Lens

  • Horseshoe Go Pro Hero 8 Mount

  • Go Pro Hero 8

  • Underwater Housing

  • Snorkeling Gear (snorkel mask, snorkel tube, and fins)
